A Final Resting Place
The decision about what to do with your loved ones ashes can be a difficult and troubling one. We hope this information will assist you in your considered decision. We are happy to care for your loved ones ashes for up to 12 months after the funeral to give you time to consider the most appropriate final resting place.
Your Options
There are many options regarding the final disposition of ashes, these include:
- Scattering
- Sending the Ashes Overseas to be buried or scattered
- Placing them in an Urn (to keep at home until a later date)
- Burial in a Cemetery Ashes Plot
Things to consider
Deceased’s wishes and instructions, personal, religious and family beliefs.
Scattering
Ashes may be scattered anywhere as long as permission is sought from the owners of the land. This includes public areas which will have an Authority managing things.
When scattering in the sea or lakes, it is worth considering others who also have an interest, either cultural or recreational, in the area.
The only drawback with scattering ashes is there is no way to memorialize the site (erect a plaque or headstone). The other concern is that you may not have access to that area in the future.
Sending Overseas
Specific documentation is required when sending ashes overseas. This varies depending on the destination country.
We are happy to assist you with this.
Ashes Urn
If the ashes are retained – perhaps to be buried at a later date – the family will often want an urn to keep them safe.
We have a range of wooden, metal and ceramic urns to choose from.
Burial
Interring ashes is becoming increasingly popular with many people. There are many options for placement of ashes and many cemeteries have specific ashes plots that allow the erection of a granite plaque, or a small headstone.
This option allows for the person to have a memorial, and provides a focal point for loved ones on special occasions, i.e. Birthdays or Christmas.
Ultimatley the decision belongs to the family of their loved one. If you would like any further advice or have any questions, please feel free to contact us
