Taranaki Cemeteries and Crematorium

The New Plymouth District Council administers one crematorium, five urban cemeteries and five rural cemeteries for the benefit of the North Taranaki community.
All cemeteries offer burial and cremation plot options.
All plots are purchased in perpetuity (forever). The maintenance of the plots is the responsibilty of the purchaser, their relative or assign.

Memorial and Floral tributes

The normal process of arranging a permanent memorial is to contact either W.Abraham Ltd or a Monumental Mason who can advise you on the options available. We can also supply you with a wooden cross, but this is considered only a temporary arrangement. All upkeep on the memorials is the responsibility of the owner.

Returned Services Area

A services area is available to those who have returned from active military service as designated by the Internal Affairs Dept. These areas are administered by the NPDC on behalf of the New Zealand Internal Affairs Department. For information on rules and eligibility contact us, or your local RSA.

Te Henui Cemetery

The original New Plymouth public cemetery opened in 1861. Although some interments still occasionally occur, no new plots are available for purchase.

This is now the main cemetery for New Plymouth. It is a lawn cemetery that offers an RSA area, monumental headstone areas and cremation plaque and headstone areas.
